5th Treasure - [Voice]

[It'd been another one of those mornings. One of those mornings where the house felt a little emptier. Patty'd hoped she wouldn't ever have to make one of these announcements, but there's no one left to take the burden off her shoulders, now. There's only her. ... Well, her and Alexei, but she can't exactly ask him to announce this.

When she opens the journal, she tries to make her voice sound as airy as possible. Of course, she doesn't entirely succeed. There's a kind of stuffiness to her tone that makes it seem as if she's got a bad cold.]

To everyone who knew her, Estelle's gone back home. There's a small ocean of library books in her room, so I guess I'll have to return those myself, ya know.

So... While I've got this thing open, I might as well ask. Anyone here handy with a pair of scissors and a mop of hair? My locks've been getting longer than a whale's tail, ya know. I could use a good cut.

[It's a little odd, but sometimes she wishes that Alexei would just do something wrong for once. That he'd be the same curr he was back home, so she'd have an excuse to lash out at him. Whenever she catches herself thinking that way, she reprimands herself for it. She should be glad Alexei's not causing anyone more hurt, but in a way she feels he never really got punished for everything he's done.]

[Carry on he does, a bit amuse by her frustration. He was given the impression she was expecting him to do something and was sorely disappointed that he wasn't.]

I was just... Just taking a walk, that's all! Thought I'd check up on the place. I am a member of Brave Vesperia now, after all!

[She's... the only remaining member from Terca Lumireis. That's kind of sad.]

Is that right...? Well is everything as it should be here?

[He wasn't really looking for an answer to that. He was just asking in a way to mock their odd relationship he had with Brave Vesperia, because of this school.]

[She's picking up on that mocking tone, all right. It makes her next reply very snippy.]

Actually, you may wanna organize that pile better. Sort it by size, ya know. Give the weapons another good clean while you're at it.

Besides, wouldn't it make more sense to separate what can be salvaged and re-used at the smith shop from what can't be?

[Sheesh Alexei, sheesh. Why ask for Patty's opinion when you can't take the criticism? It's not like she's about to give you buttpats for your hard work.]

Fine, you go ahead and do that. It's not like I expected you to listen to anything I say anyway, ya know. You're more stubborn than a hammerhead shark in the shallows.

I did hear your message earlier. [He puts the sword down to start another pile]

[She gives a loud scoff at that. While she'd considered filtering the message away from Alexei, ultimately there wasn't much of a point to it. Why keep him in the dark about Estelle's departure when he probably couldn't care less about it either way?]

[...still a strange concept that they're not a bigger presence anymore.]

Regardless of my answer, it wouldn't have changed your impression of me.

Nope, not really. It's not like you're doing much else to change that impression anyway, ya know. I mean, I've been here for over half a year now and you're still... [She shakes off, shaking her head harshly.]

...I'm still here, helping to run the school I had entrusted to Brave Vesperia. [He takes a step back to look over the new pile of old weapons he had made.]

Quite a shame, the man I had given my confidence to had to leave soon after.

Your confidence?! You think he needed your confidence?! [Her hands curl into fists by her sides and she can feel her cheeks flush lightly in anger.]

Who do you think you are?! You're nothing but a no-good traitor and a murderer! You can try and play innocent here all you want, but that won't change what you've done!

No, but does it matter here?

[He thought about correcting her statement, but then changed his mind. It would have been a lost cause with Patty.] I'm sure it's rather frustrating for you to know that it doesn't. And it didn't stop Yuri from approaching me about the school.

Only because he had to! You were probably the last person he wanted to approach, but it was unavoidable, ya know.

Yes, and frankly I could have easily turned down the offer, but he must have been desperate considering he didn't back down. Running low on jobs in Brave Vesperia?

You shut your mouth! At least we're still trying to keep the guild together! [It's just... kind of difficult to get jobs when people get pretty much everything they want for free and don't need to travel anywhere.]

If that is your best comeback, then there must have been some truth in what I said.

[He collects a few of the weapons from the new pile, preparing to make a trip to the smithy since he's pretty much through talking here.]

Try not to lose this guild as well.

[That last line causes Patty's restraint to break with one clean 'snap'. Her right hand moves to her holster and before she fully realizes it, she's already pointing her pistol directly at Alexei's face. Cypher's pistol. When she speaks, her voice is thick with fury. She has to try very hard not to break into shouting.]

How dare you? How dare you? Don't you ever speak that way about Siren's Fang again. You have no right to speak of them after what you did.

[Alexei looked between her and the pistol she held in her hand. The discomforting grin still on his face.]

Threatening me like that won't change what had happened. And besides, who was it that offer their assistance to me in the first place?

It's a guild's job to accept calls for aid, no matter who asks! You knew that better than anyone! That's exactly why you asked us in the first place, isn't it? Because we couldn't refuse and we'd walk right into your hands!

[Her hand starts shaking a little, but she makes sure the pistol doesn't point away from Alexei's face. She'd actually believed the request to aid Black Hope had been noble. She'd believed they were setting out to save lives, not end more of them. She'd bought into Alexei's facade, just as everyone else did, and paid a dear price for it.]

Using human beings as guinea pigs...! And even after all these years, you're still proud of what you did! You're despicable!

The lives of your crew were but a small sacrifice on the grand scale. Your crew at least proved my research wouldn't go where I wanted it to go, unfortunate that it came to that conclusion, but no more lives would be used because of your guild.

[Look at that, your crew did save some lives. Be Happy Patty]

[Her finger tightens around the pistol's trigger. She knows she shouldn't shoot. She knows that, but it's awfully tempting.]

They never asked to become sacrifices! You can't justify murder by calling it research, ya know! That's just a delusion! It doesn't change that you lied, bringing death and suffering to good men who had nothing to do with your pointless little test!
