[Patty isn't a stranger to waking up in peculiar places. In fact, she's awoken in places far stranger than this. The first thing she noticed was the nostalgic, salty smell of the sea. Then, the crash of waves that were rocking her little 'boat' back and forth. It was really quite calming. However, all dreams must come to an end and it wasn't long before she regained consciousness entirely to realize that she was in a bit of a pickle.

She was in a washtub. In the middle of an ocean. Wearing a plain white dress. ... Well, it could always be worse. Not quite noticing the book beside her just yet, she begins to speak.]

Oooh, my head... I know that when it's time to abandon ship and you're out of lifeboats, you should float along in a powder keg, but I've never heard of washtub boats before.

Ah, looks like I'm caught up the creek without a paddle. [Silence, then a little crackle in the microphone.] ...This book will do, ya know!

[What follows is a very loud splash, as Patty dunks the journal into the water to try and paddle her way to shore. This... may take a while.]

[Oooh, a building. Patty has no idea why they're in there, but she'll roll with it.]

[Come on, follow this random guy into a metal chamber he just opened up! It won't be weird!]

Well, there's something you can do! Everyone appreciates a talented cook around here. [Or. Ling does, anyway.]

[Hm... Maybe she can build her own oden cart and set it up in town somewhere, so people can- wait. Why is this guy entering a small metal chamber? Patty stops in her tracks.]

Uhh... I don't mean to interrupt, but... What is this thing?

Oh, this? It's a teleporter. It will take us to the village.

[With a smile that you can absolutely trust.]

[She peeks around the inside of the metal chamber.]

This doesn't look like any teleporter I've ever seen...

It's the only teleporter I've seen.

[She would accuse this contraption of causing radiation poisoning if she knew what that was, but no such thing exists in the Vesperia universe. So instead, she just feels the metal walls.]

You sure this will work? I don't wanna end up losing an arm, or getting my body fused together with yours, or something.

I've used it many times, with or without people. I haven't been fused with anyone yet. If you lose an arm, I know where you can get a replacement.

Well... All right then. [She steps into the metal chamber and waits.]

[They both step inside. And then he closes it. One moment later, he reopens it. And voila! They're inside the barracks.]

Well, I don't seem to have any of your parts attached to me. How about you?

[What the- That wasn't magical teleportation! That was more like a cheap magic trick, only it actually worked. Patty frowns in confusion, before glancing down at her body to make sure it's all as it's supposed to be.]

Hm... Nope, I'm good!

Well then, if that's the case, I'll show you the rest of the way. I'm sure you'd like to at least have some shoes.

[Off we go! To the exit of the barracks, so it becomes obvious it was more than just a trick.]

[Patty follows, folding her hands behind her back as she glances around in interest.]

So how many people are in this village?

Oh, about three hundred. It's a remarkably small village, really.

I'd say it sounds just about right for a village. If there were any more, it'd become a city, ya know.

You can have quite a bit more before calling it a city. [Unless it's an RPG! Maybe.] It does make it easy to get to know everyone.

[Patty frowns a little. Dahngrest is one of the biggest cities she knows and even that only has about four hundred, possibly five hundred residents. It's the same for Zaphias. Different worlds must mean different standards for cities.]

I'm sure it does. And people who know each other from back home tend to arrive here, right?

That does seem to be the case. Two of my countrymen are here, as well as some of my foreign friends. It's not unlikely you'll find some people you already know here.

Aye, I've already run into two of them. [Though one of them is a person she'd rather have left back home, where he was dead and no longer a threat.]

Well, good news right away! Now where would you like to go first?

How about the place where they keep the clothes? This dress is getting itchy.

[The fact that seawater splashed all over it during her washtub trip isn't exactly helping, either.]

The clothing store is always a popular destination for new arrivals. Watch your feet as we go.
