3rd Treasure - [Voice / Action for house #12]

[It’s late afternoon of the 13th, and life in Vesperia house is returning to normal now that Estelle’s kidnapping side-effect has worn off. Patty has snuck into Yuri’s room with only the most innocent of intentions. That is, one of Yuri’s socks had ‘accidentally’ found its way into her laundry and she was only entering the room to bring it back. This certainly has nothing to do with a morbid curiosity of what Yuri’s room looks like after such a long time in Luceti. Nope.

Still, her motives don’t stop her from gazing around the room in amazement when she does enter. Everything looks exactly as she expected it to. It’s distinctly Yuri. With the sock dropped on his bed and her curiosity satisfied, she turns to leave the room again. That’s when she spots it. A picture of a familiar woman, her smile filled with more happiness than Patty’s used to seeing. In her lap is sitting… Well, there’s no question about it. That’s a young Krityan boy.

Overcome by surprise, even a small amount of shock, she opens her journal, puts up a hurried, flimsy filter and shouts into it.]

YUUURIIII! Why do you have a picture of Judy and a kid?! When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell us? [… Gasp!] Are you the father?!

[This ... this was not what Yuri wanted to see after taking a break during his usual battledome runs. At the very least, she made an attempt to filter, but dammit Patty why now?!

... That aside, though, he decides to try to derail this as much as possible by going after something that this situation very obviously suggests to him.]

Hey, who said you could go picking around through my room?

[Her tone of voice is a little huffy and defensive when she replies, but she knows Yuri has a point. She totally just revealed she went into his room.]

I wasn't picking around. I was just bringing back one of your socks. ... You're evading the question, ya know.

... Huh. I thought I was missing something. [A quick pause, then--] Still, next time, just wait until I get home. I like my privacy, you know.

[... Still very obviously evading the question, yes, but Patty might hear fairly quick footsteps coming from him as well. Someone's on his way home, and he's not being a slowpoke about it either.]

People who like their privacy should lock their secrets away tighter than the jaws of the great white shark. [Or in other words, next time Yuri should just lock his door.

Meanwhile, her gaze falls back to the picture.] The old man never told me Judy was here. When was this?

I usually don't expect people to wander into my room like that, but I guess I might as well start doing that now.

[He's trying to keep his tone neutral and indifferent, but there may be some bitterness seeping in near the end of that sentence. Not that that's entirely Patty's fault.]

... Aside from one other quick time, she was here years ago. [... That's probably going to open a lot of questions. Yuri decides to make it clear as he can that he doesn't want to discuss this over the journal without bluntly stating it. ... But it still comes out a little cold either way.] I'll explain later.

[Years ago... But the boy in the picture looks old enough to be one. Was the kid born here, or was he brought in from Terca Lumireis? Hm... She'll reluctantly take the hint, though.]

Aye, fine. I'll be waiting!

[And about ten minutes later, the front door will be opened and Yuri will be entering the house. He at least managed to separate his annoyance with some girl he barely knows being in his room and finding something that personal to him and his much higher bitterness/anger with the things he read down in that tunnel on his way to the house, though!

... Mostly, anyway. But hey, better than him coming straight home and throwing misdirected anger at housemates, right?

Anyway, he'll go ahead and call out once he's inside. Mostly so he knows where the heck Patty is.]

I'm back!

Yuriii! [Patty comes dashing around the corner from one of the hallways, straight into the living room. Despite the situation, she's smiling happily. Really, what else can she do but smile? The only thing she could be mad at him for is keeping secrets, but he said he'd explain everything.]

Welcome home.

[Well, she seems to be in a better mood. That makes things a little easier on him, at least. Either way, he'll be heading toward his room now as he continues talking, mostly to throw the jacket he's wearing on his bed.]

I'm guessing I don't need to ask whether or not everything is still where it should be?

[Aka, that picture.]

[She follows, folding her hands behind her back and stretching her legs out in front of her as she walks. It's a bad habit of hers to exhibit more childish traits when she's bothered by something but refuses to show it.]

Aye, don't worry! I've been a good girl.

[Hearing Yuri's return, Estelle goes back to his room where Patty is. When she sees him, she gives him a sad look before turning her eyes down towards her folded hands.]

Yuri...

[Shes not sure what to say.]

[Unfortunately, Yuri doesn't know Patty well enough yet to realize that that's a tell, but he does think something's a little weird about the way she's acting. Estelle coming by with that sad look on her face doesn't help any of this, either.

... Maybe this wasn't going to be any easier on him, after all.]

You too, huh? [Sigh. He'll shrug lightly and head into his room now, figuring the other two will just follow.] ... I guess you two were gonna find out eventually, anyway.

[And follow she will! Though, the way Yuri worded that is only strengthening her suspicions. Is he really the father of that kid? But then... Where is the kid now?

She'd make some kind of witty remark about how they're sharper than a dolphin's tail fin, but that seems a little inappropriate now, so she'll hold her tongue for once.]

[Estelle hangs her head a little. She hadn't been meaning to pry, but when a picture is shoved in your face... well.

So she just follows them into his room as well without saying a word.]

[Once they're in there, Yuri briefly glances at where he remembers leaving that picture last. ... Yep, still there, and nothing seems to be wrong with it. Not that he figured Patty would rip it to shreds or anything, but still.

After that brief glance, he'll close his eyes, sigh, and start talking. While he talks, though, his tone will be wavering between indifferent and bitter -- mostly indifferent, though.]

... I'll take care of the more obvious questions first. [ ... ] First off, what I'm sure you two were suspecting is right - the kid in that picture is mine. He came around about three years ago, the first time Judy and I came here. [another short pause, then--] But obviously, he's not here anymore. When Judy left, he was supposedly moved to another enclosure here around the same time. It's not like there's any way for me to actually check that, though.

[ ... ]

If there's anything else you two want to know, you'd be better off asking me about it now. This isn't something I enjoy having brought up to me too often.

[For the most part, Patty just listens in silence. The lack of emotion in Yuri's voice is a little startling, but... Well, it's Yuri. She's hardly ever heard him speak with real emotion. Noticeable or not, it's definitely in there.

Yuri and Judy had a kid here... An adorable little boy... It seems so unreal.]

Why'd they move him? Aren't there lots of kids here without parents?

[Estelle can hear it in his voice, the bitterness. And she can't bring herself to ask any questions. She didn't want to interrogate Yuri over something that obviously caused him pain. Despite the lack of emotion he displayed, you couldn't tell her that this wasn't painful for him. Yuri wasn't inhuman like that.

So for now she just listens as Patty asks questions.]

[Yuri's quiet for a quick moment after Patty's question. Not because it particularly bothered him - it's just hard for him to remember short conversations from years back with the whole "going home and coming back" thing he's done several times since then.]

I was told it had something to do with Judy leaving and a "shift signature", whatever that is. For all I know, they were probably just shoving a load of crap at me to get me to shut up-- [... Whoops, that's a little too obviously bitter. He cuts himself off, takes a quick second to calm down, and continues.] ... There has to be something else to it, though. Finding out what that "something else" is supposed to be is another story.

Oh... [And there we have it. The bitterness suddenly became that much more pronounced. It's clear Yuri's bothered by it, now. Why wouldn't he be? She's not sure what else to ask, though. She doesn't want to push Yuri's limits.]

[... With everything that's happened recently, this added on is just too much for Estelle. Tears well up in her eyes and whispering as she turns to leave.]

I'm so sorry, Yuri. ... Excuse me.

[And with that she's left the room. She won't bother him about it any more.]

[Yuri doesn't even look when Estelle leaves. She hasn't exactly had an easy time in Luceti so far, so he's not surprised to see her react that way. Patty's reaction doesn't exactly scream "I have more to ask" either, so--]

... That's all, then?

[In a way, she feels a little hypocritical now. She forced Yuri to share a painful secret about his personal life, but she still hasn't told him about Black Hope. And Estelle, who's already been through so much lately... It made her cry. Maybe it would've been better if Patty hadn't asked about the kid at all.

There's a moment of silence before she clears her throat.]

The kid's name... What is it?

[ ... ]

It's Jonah.

[At least that didn't come out bitter or forced.]

Jonah... [She repeats the name with a certain amount of awe, then smiles brightly.]

I like it!

[That gets him to smile just slightly.]

... Thanks. It wasn't an easy name to come up with.
